Job Description

Non‑Executive Board Appointment 

Dairy Australia is seeking to appoint a Non‑Executive Director with strong milk producer skills to its Board. This appointment offers a meaningful opportunity to help shape the strategic direction, profitability and long‑term sustainability of the Australian dairy industry.

As a Director, you will utilise your sound business judgement and governance capability to ensure levy payer funds are invested wisely and industry priorities are advanced effectively.

About the Role

Working collaboratively with your fellow Directors, you will play a key role in:

  • Providing governance oversight and strategic guidance at a national industry level
  • Contributing to the development and approval of strategic and operating plans and associated budgets
  • Supporting strong engagement with levy payers, industry bodies and key stakeholders
  • Championing innovation, sustainability outcomes and capability development across the dairy industry

This role requires a broad industry perspective, credibility with dairy farmers, and a commitment to stewardship and accountability.

About You

Dairy Australia is seeking candidates who demonstrate deep experience across dairy farm systems and milk production, combined with strong governance capability, including:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of milk production and dairy farm systems, including feedbase management, animal performance and animal welfare
  • Farm business management capability, with a clear understanding of profitability, productivity and risk across diverse dairy systems
  • Experience adopting research and development outcomes, including leading or enabling innovation and change management on farm
  • Strong engagement and communication capability, with experience working with levy payers, dairy industry groups and broader agricultural networks
  • Understanding of people challenges in dairy, including workforce capability, career pathways, ownership structures, health, safety and wellbeing
  • Knowledge of dairy industry structures and networks, including representative and industry bodies
  • Understanding of the Australian Dairy Sustainability Framework and sound practice in environmental and natural resource management

In addition to the expected background experience, demonstrated experience and skills in one or more of the following areas would be highly regarded:

  • Leadership
  • Governance
  • Stakeholder engagement
  • Strategy and change management
  • Business development

Candidates will also bring a broad business perspective and general commercial acumen, developed through involvement in industry, representative bodies, boards or governance roles.
